SOC 4990/6990: Sociology of Food and Agriculture

This class is an introduction to the many ways in which food is produced and consumed in industrial societies. This course takes a sociological approach to the historical development of our current ways of producing and consuming food, the relationships, economics, and regulation of our food system, and new developments changing the future of food. The course will have a primary focus on the theory and case of the United States, but we will also examine food and agriculture globally, particularly in the developing world.
